Over the past month, the Valley food scene welcomed Ingo’s Tasty Food, Inchin’s Bamboo Garden, and a Filipino barbecue place, The Flaming Pig. More pizza joints opened, including another Lou Malnati’s, Illimitato Pizza, and Throne Brewing and Pizza Kitchen.
We also lost five restaurants in the area this month. Below, check out the full list of openings and closings in the Phoenix restaurant scene from August 2021.
Ingo’s Tasty Food
101 East Washington Street, Suite A
Burgers, chopped salad, and pastries from La Grande Orange are among the menu offerings from Ingo’s Tasty Food.
Inchin’s Bamboo Garden
17 East Boston Street, Chandler
Inchin’s Bamboo Garden highlights fusion food from India, Malaysia, and China. Its second location opened in Chandler this month.
The Paleta Bar
521 South College Avenue, #107, Tempe
There are 25 locations of The Paleta Bar. The most recent location opened in Tempe. Patrons can customize their own paletas with flavors, dips and toppings.
1015 South Rural Road, Tempe
The second location of the casual Mexican eatery Taco Boy’s has opened in Tempe. The menu includes burros, tacos, quesadillas as well homemade horchatas. We reviewed the original location in 2020.
Throne Brewing and Pizza Kitchen
1326 North Central Avenue
The Glendale restaurant Throne Brewing and Pizza Kitchen has opened a second location in Phoenix. The newest location showcases sandwiches, burgers, pizza, and brews.
Hi 5 Tea
225 West Warner Road, #102, Chandler
Hi 5 Tea offers bubble tea as well fried rice and noodle dishes, pad Thai, stir fry, pho, vermicelli noodles, and ice creams.
1235 North 98th Avenue, Peoria
The ice cream joint Creamistry opens its first West Valley location in Park West.
Corner of Recker and Brown
Tacos Tapatio is the newest food truck to make its debut in Mesa. It’s open somewhere between two and four days a week (check their social media accounts for the schedule). Taco Tapatio serves Jalisco-style tacos, burros, as well as quesadillas.
1534 West Camelback Road
Filipino barbecue restaurant Flaming Pig offers Korean meatloaf and soups, as well as barbecued meats on a platter or sticks.
1038 West Southern Avenue, #1, Mesa
A new fast-casual chicken joint has opened in Mesa. Fryd Bird specializes in fried chicken, paired with dipping sauces and waffle fries.
The Bread and Honey House
4801 East Indian School Road
The newest location of The Bread and Honey House opened in Arcadia. The menu features avocado toast, fish tacos, chilaquiles, and omelettes.
2041 North Arizona Avenue, Chandler
The Vietnamese restaurant Saigon Bistro features a live lobster tank. The Chandler restaurant serves six types of pho, noodle and rice dishes.
Mesquite Fresh Tex Mex
1730 West Happy Valley Road
The eighth location of Mesquite Fresh Tex Mex, a fast-casual Mexican eatery, opened its doors in Phoenix. The menu includes burritos, tacos, and bowls.
Lou Malnati’s Pizzeria
3510 East Baseline Road, Suite L5-D-103, Mesa
Lou Malnati’s Pizzeria launched its first East Valley location. The restaurant is currently open to takeout and delivery orders only.
4929 West Ray Road, #1, Chandler
The Mediterranean eatery serves kabobs, shawarma, lamb chops and gyros. Supreme Shawarma took over the space that previously housed Turkdish Mediterranean Cuisine.
The Caspian Cup
2268 East Williams Field Road, #108, Gilbert
A dessert shop, The Caspian Cup serves several flavors of shaved ice, popsicles, ice cream, and other cold treats. Try the creamy coconut ice or coffee ice to start.
Manuel’s Mexican Restaurant & Cantina
4210 South Arizona Avenue, Chandler
Manuel’s Mexican Restaurant & Cantina has opened its eight location in the Valley in Chandler. Baja fish tacos and seafood enchiladas are some of the highlights on the menu.
The Chandler Mexican restaurant has closed after four years.
Copper Still Moonshine Grill
The four-year-old sports bar closed its Gilbert location.
Teakwoods Tavern & Grill
After 15 years, the Gilbert area Teakwoods Tavern & Grill closed its doors. The lease ended and the restaurant owners decided to close.
Howler’s Restaurant & Sports Bar
Located in Gilbert Town Square, the sports bar closed after one year of business. The Chandler location still is open.
The Utah-based bakery was only open a year and closed its door this month.
